11/9/12: Washington Post Interview with Robert Pattinson

Some people have been critical of whether your personal lives are being used to market the “Twilight” movies, in particular your relationship with Kristen. What is your response to that?
 
Pattinson: Being critical of?

You know, people saying “Their romantic relationship is being used as a marketing tool for the film.”
 
Pattinson: [Pauses, then laughs] For one thing, it would be a terrible marketing tool, and it’s not utilized very well at all. People will say anything. I’m still amazed that people even believe anything [that’s said about us]. I mean, it’s one of the craziest things about the whole situation, where you can see the whole — is paradigm the right word? — of celebrity gossip, celebrity culture type stuff that’s literally entirely made up. There’s a story line. You have a set character and your story line is written for you. And it doesn’t matter what you do. I talked to Reese Witherspoon about it a while ago, and she was the person who really told me, you get given a character. I mean, I’ve literally tried to do things to throw people off, and it just doesn’t get printed. 

10/22/12: During Rob's press junket in Australia to promote the release of Breaking Dawn: Part 2: “...it’s hard because people have kind of made this media culture…people have kind of made this assumption that anything is fair game, but it’s really kind of not. It’s just impossible to fight against. Half the time, what people are doing is entirely illegal, and you just can’t do anything about it. It’s a weird sort of thing.”

While promoting in Australia... when asked if he felt the media spotlight had affected his love life the British hunk admitted, “it depends on the person you fell in love with”.

When asked if 'love' could be changed by fame he said. “I haven’t really thought about that. I don’t think it’s changed that much. I don’t think the way you see it changes much. You make your decisions, and it depends on the person you fall in love with anyway.” he told Mexican magazine 15 a 20.

Some have claimed his readiness to forgive Kristen shows that Rob is a "walk over" and the actor admits he's sensitive to people's opinions.

He claimed: “I react to certain things because I’m too sensitive and I never want to offend anybody.

“I find it fascinating when there’s someone who’s not afraid to express their views out loud, not caring what other people say.”

Though added that “knowing himself” made it easier to forgive others: “Sometimes it’s easier to be more sensitive because you’re more aware of what you’re thinking.”

Robert: "The world would be a much better place, I think, if all these bankers and billionaires were followed by paparazzi and studied as carefully."

"The weird thing is, I can't really tell you what's interesting about actors either," he said. "People don't find the personal lives of people with much, much more power than any celebrity would have — don't find their personal lives interesting. I think if you put the lives of people who controlled billions of dollars on the front news of every single paper, the world would be a better place. It's the spin culture. If you took away publicists and things and people spoke for themselves, then they'd have to be responsible for their words."
