Silence is Golden - But I Know I'm Not Crazy :)

12/11/11 - 3rd Post

COMMENTS from the CROWD - Love Me or Hate Me

So Ok, I'm not really sure what to think about your silence out there, but perhaps in this case - as it sometimes does; silence speaks louder than words. (That's kinda why I added the poll above - maybe it will help us take our temperature. :)

I don't have a daughter invested in these movies, but I feel for those of you who do... So I'm leaving this post up so that everyone can see Twilight for "what it really is" and move beyond it.

I know you're all smart kids (both young & young-at-heart) - so is Bella, that's why we all love her so much. If she were real, she probably would have seen right through this silly story, too. Frankly, I think she deserves a better story to romp & play in - and so do you.

I really am glad that I was introduced to Twilight, however... It kinda came along just at a time when I "really needed it". I'm sure you know what I mean.

And if nothing else, it made us all think & talk about things that maybe we don't talk about nearly as often as we should. Twilight gets credit for giving moms, daughters and their cohorts something to talk about - and the fact that we are talking about it beyond its silly ending is the most rewarding thing of all about it. In fact, its priceless.

Keep dreaming. :)

PS: Since I haven't been receiving any positive or negative feedback, I (of course) became a little paranoid and poured a little more research into my opinion just to make sure I'm not entirely crazy - turns out that I'm not, sorry to disappoint...

So, I'm leaving you with a couple of links 1) to an article that contains a list of negative Twilight reviews (there are alot more) that backs me up; along with 2) a link to an interview with Twilight's author, Stephenie Meyer.

I really really do not understand why the studio wasn't listening; but I guess they're all Ok with it as long as enough other people are.

I'll probably continue to check in here every few days over the next few weeks, just to make sure nothing is left hanging in here; but I'm ready to move on since no one will play with me - ha!

BookStories Interview w/ Stephenie Meyer
Before my shocking "revelation", I had already read a quote from Stephenie Meyer somewhere about her not doing research on Vampires; and it was no doubt one of my "clues".

Twilight Makes for the Best Fanwank Ever - A short list of reviews, mostly from 2008-2009 who weren't buying into Twilight - especially the ending - way back then. Including a couple of comments from our beloved Mr. Pattinson - I knew I liked him for a reason, smart boy!

There is one quote from this article that I'm going to include here though - just because it is in the comments below, and alot of times we don't read down that far. This is a response by "Mary R" to someone who was getting annoyed with "what a big deal" people were making about the story at the time. Mary is responding to someone who thought we should "leave things alone and let the young girls have their pretty story":

"I can see what you mean about the (too hot) criticism (of Twilight), but I think most of the time people have very valid points and they're just getting frustrated at this point, that they're talking into the ether and no one is listening. Every time that I say to someone that I find Edward creepy, it's like people are plugging their ears and saying "Lalalala not listening..." So I admit I let my maturity slip a little..."

Jeez, I can SO identify with this lady... I just want to shake everyone and yell, "SNAP OUT OF IT!" I really am mystified as to why Summit Entertainment chose to completely ignore these people who were making really good points about how incredibly dysfunctional the Twilight storyline was long before *I* ever came along.

They had an opportunity to create an amazing story, and then just let it wilt like this? I'm beyond disappointed. Especially since I'm sure the movies would have made as much money, if not MORE, if they had taken the time to correct things! I'm just so stumped...

This article was written 11/22/08, a day after the original Twilight movie aired. Since the last line of the article echoes my own thoughts about the storyline three years later; I'm going to continue it by embracing it, including it here, and adding to it...

"They may have put a hardcover and a sticker on some truly unworthy literature (and then treated all the "book fans" by making them into movies)... but (neither) the publishing company (nor the movie studio) will have the last laugh."

In which I finish revealing the disturbing realization about how WRONG the Twilight Saga - especially the ending of Breaking Dawn - is to be targeted toward our young adults!
