COMMENTS from the CROWD - Love Me or Hate Me
So... I've had this blog post up now for a few days, and there have been a few hundred people who have stopped by. Whether any of them have actually read my original post (below) is anybody's guess - it is quite long and "out there". However, I do find it odd that I haven't incurred any Twilight fan wrath - I expected that. But I think the post is too full of brutal honesty for anyone - lovers or haters of Twilight - to want to touch it.
That, and... My reaction to the Breaking Dawn storyline is a blatant over-reaction, I will freely admit it. I didn't come up with this theory about the birth of Twilight until Thanksgiving Day when I wanted SO badly to go see the movie; but just the thought me cringe - and then this all just hit me like a ton of bricks! Two thoughts were twirling in my head, 1) Why the HELL am I SO hung up on this stupid story?!; and 2) Why the HELL would anyone WRITE it this way?!
Maybe I am a little hung up on make-believe Vampire lore - it "can" admittedly be altered for this movie; and I "could" have went and saw it on Thanksgiving Day. But, I want to see it without all the static that is built up inside of me. It's kinda like breaking up with someone - I need more time, ha!
Obviously, so many people are still in love with the Twilight story despite the "Vampires can't have babies with Humans" thing. But from my point of view... For those of you who are Space SciFi fans... We wouldn't make a new story reinventing Star Trek's Klingons or the Vulcan race; we would write inside the boundaries of their fundamental, make-believe lore. If we write it any other way, we could just as well be writing about an entirely different race. Yes, there is room to maneuver - it's just that Twilight went a little "too far" outside of the lines for this genre. And for really really lame reasons from what I can see (again - my opinion).
I am aware, just so you know; that Stephenie Meyer does (sort of) explain the birth of the vamp-baby by saying that Vampires just are not aware that they can procreate with Humans, simply because they can't usually get close enough to them to get intimate with them - without eating them.
So Ok, a simple little explanation for a simple little-girl's story - still so sad. (But maybe it isn't much worse than the "simple scene adjustment" that I added in one of the alternative endings, in order to make the current story make sense - then again, my ending was just to "make this story" work the way it is, now - a "professional" would probably have changed alot more things about it). I would think after existing for thousands of years, Vampires would have stumbled onto this little bit of knowledge alot sooner. AND Carlyle (Yes, I now know this is spelled wrong. I would never have made it into Aro's Vampire Court. ;) being an expert in both Human & Vampire biology and anatomy - it wouldn't have been quite such a surprise.
I am truly really hoping all the static inside of me will dissipate at some point; and I'll be able to watch Breaking Dawn Part 1 & 2 by the time they come out on DVD. Believe it or not, I'm not "that stuck". (At least, I hope not - ha!)
I think it is also surprising that there don't seem to be many people backing me up on any of my issues with the Twilight storyline, because I know those people are out there - and there are more than a few of them. But re-assessing the situation, most of those people were infuriated with the book, Breaking Dawn, when it came out - so most of them were probably not into the movies. I am coming in on this argument a bit late - sorry if this subject has been run into the ground, already. It's new to me.
I've thought about removing the post... But I think I'm going to keep it up for awhile for a couple of reasons:
1) Because even with the huge outcry of people who had issues with the storyline when the book originally came out; the studio and the author continued to bust this story out exactly as it was written, unapologetically - complete with several dysfunctional flaws, without much more than a "too bad" thrown at those of us who could see right through it; and
2) Because we women seldom tell the truth about stuff like this when we should... We've been writing this "beautiful story" off long enough. The studio marketed this story toward our girls full of glaring errors that have done nothing but encourage the immature hysteria surrounding the movies (from young & older, alike); failing to provide any semblance of a "coming of age" romantic fairytale nearly as honorable as it has been marketed to be.
You may think I'm overreacting, but this story is simply not good enough - for anyone - the way it is.
