Reading Twilight 5 - But before I do, let's talk about "Midnight Sun"

Actual Blog Post Date - 4/20/12

You know, I've been thinking about something since I've read chapters 4 & 5 and started seeing a little improvement in the writing. Edward is starting to come into the picture in a more interactive way now - Bella is doing more than just observing him; and *I* am seeing him more in my head now because I've read "Midnight Sun". I'm really almost wishing I hadn't read it, now - but perhaps it is giving me some balance as I'm reading this. I haven't entirely given up on this story - just mostly, lol!

For those of you who don't know... "Midnight Sun" was yet another Twilight book that Stephenie Meyer started writing. Basically, it is Twilight being retold from Edward's perspective. It is a MUCH more fascinating read, because Edward can of course READ MINDS and tell you what everyone else in the story is thinking - except for Bella, of course - LoL!

But, EVEN in this MUCH better written version of Twilight there is ONE MAJOR FLAW that kept sticking out at me like a sore thumb as I was reading it - Edward's MOUTH "fills up with venom" ALOT in his responses to Bella, as if he is salivating over her. HOW would Edward be able to KISS BELLA  - much less EVER stick his tongue down her throat - if he has this kind of reaction going on that is poisonous to her?! Stephenie, your "venom" angle within this story SERIOUSLY needs to be COMPLETELY thrown out.

Midnight Sun goes into all kinds of things that Twilight does not. You see what is going on within Edward's family and what is going on in his mind surrounding Bella, etc. He is far more fleshed out than in Twilight (and as a result, SO is Bella because he is telling you about her) - and KUDOS to Stephenie for being able to write SUCH beautiful characters! HOW can you be able to write like this and obviously love your characters so much - and have given them SUCH an incredibly BAD story to romp & play in, Stephenie?!

There is a link on my blog done by a woman who had read the books; and wondered about the timing of the accidental leak of "Midnight Sun" as a marketing plot to bring fans back to Twilight after Breaking Dawn was published and ruined it for so many people.

I can tell you that MIDNIGHT SUN SAVED TWILIGHT for ME (for awhile). It was "the final thing" that convinced me to buy the books. Someone had mentioned it in a comment thread, so I decided to check it out to see if the books might be worth reading. And while it was obviously a rough draft - you KNEW that as you were reading it.

At the time I was reading the story about what happened with the accidental release of Midnight Sun, I felt sorry for Stephenie Meyer. I've heard alot of heated comments from people coming down on her because they felt she should have kept writing it, anyway.

If it was *me* - I could totally see why she wouldn't want to go back to writing this book. I would have been frustrated and hurt and MAD enough not to want to touch it again, either! (Maybe, but I wouldn't have shared it with any of you.) BUT, you can all see how much *I* get into things... I get obsessed about every little thing, my mind is mush when it comes to a good story. Yeah, even my own that I make up, LoL!

I can insert myself into ANY character in any movie (male or female) and "become that character" for as long as I want to and step from one to another whenever the mood strikes me. Believe it or not, *my* alternative worlds are FAR more about the "family" aspect of things, not the sexual aspects of it that YOU all seem to be into. Although it's certainly true that I am a hot-blooded Human female; and I can certainly get into Edward being the PERFECT lover & lifemate, ha!

I can only guess that Stephenie Meyer was as obsessed as *I* can get with her own pretty story, and just HAD to share! And she was either really hurt & frustrated with the leak of Midnight Sun to the point of not continuing it; or it was a marketing ploy to bring us all back into the Twilight fold - OR both. Any way you slice it, it's sad...

I stumbled across "Midnight Sun" just in time... And I ended up continuing with Twilight, after I was already starting to become disappointed in it (I was feeling a need to have the whole Bella/Jacob backstory filled in because the movies are so lacking on it) - before I even knew about the vamp-baby! I really really wonder... How many of you "stayed" or "came back" because of Midnight Sun?

If you haven't watched my YouTube videos, I've been kind of coy on my blog about what I've come up with as a way for Stephenie Meyer to make this dysfunctional story up to ALL of her fans because I was hoping the curiosity of it would compel you to watch them.

But this is it... She can PICK Midnight Sun back up and DO THIS STORY RIGHT for ALL of us. The way it should have been done. I don't care if she has to use the silly "Bella wakes up from a long, scary dream" trick to do it.

The reason why she didn't do research in the beginning was simply because she was rushing in excitement to the big bang! You've got that out of your system now, Stephenie... Write Midnight Sun right.

I TOTALLY BELIEVE that you are capable of writing this story BOTH seductively & responsibly - either from a YA perspective or taking it back into the adult sphere as it should have been left; and I also TOTALLY BELIEVE that you love your characters and didn't MEAN to give them this TERRIBLE of a story; and I also (at the moment) TOTALLY BELIEVE that YOU - as a person, as a Human, as a woman, as a mother and as a WRITER - have more integrity than this. WHY ELSE would you have bothered putting YEARS into college toward a literary graduate degree if you DIDN'T CARE about writing?!

We can't FORCE Stephenie Meyer to rewrite our beautiful Vampire fairytale... But we CAN treat this post like a petition and let her know HOW MANY of us would like her to do this. She'll see this page eventually - ESPECIALLY if we make it BIG enough for her camp to SEE! Leave your message for her, below...
